Values & philosophy
TDD First
London style — test against interfaces, test behavior, mocks as DRYed fakes. Non-negotiable across every language and project, not a phase I grew out of.
Minimalism
The smaller dependency wins by default. Every addition is a maintenance liability I have to justify keeping, not a convenience I get for free.
First Principles
Understanding beats memorizing an API. I'd rather learn how a pattern or protocol actually works by building a rough version of it myself than lean on a framework's abstraction of it.
Simplicity Over Cleverness
Readable code beats clever code. I distrust magic — reflection, hidden containers, framework bloat — it's always the first thing that breaks at 2am.
